So I had my soft launch opening on Friday. Quite frankly, it was a slowish day in terms of actual biz. But nothing I didn’t expect.
After all, South Florida is highly seasonal, which is why my official launch is not until October 1st, when the snowbirds start to arrive.
This will give me plenty of time to get everything ready just so, as well as focus lots more than I have on the design and implementation of my online catalog — which is not going to require quite a bit of work in terms of taking snaps, cropping/prepping the images, uploading and tabulating hundreds and hundreds of needlepoint pics, but also a little CSS razzmatazz to attract eyeballs.
A couple of semi humorous mishaps occurred on the way to the shop on Day 1 — including a torrential downpour and the usual crazy driving on US 1, which I sometimes refer to as Yonkers Raceway. Of course the once famous raceway is now a casino, but that was not the case as I was growing up in Bronxville.
Then I got to the shop and accidentally set off the alarm and could not get it to stop its eardrum-shattering noise. After that I was somewhat frazzled. Plus which. the installer had not hung the final shelving across the back of the store and I was still shelfless, so no models to display. This is still the case and I am hoping this gets done soon.
I called my friend Marianne who came over not only to provide some moral support but also to help me with hanging the Vineyard Silk, which arrived and to our delight had added a whole bunch of new colors.
The other good news is that lots of people came into the shop and took quite a few business cards.
Happily for Marianne, her Mrs. Cat arrived, so she was able to take her home and plan her thread strategy. I offered Marianne a courtesy discount for all her help that day and she said she will take no such offer until Needlepoint Land has been in business for three years! So, really, thanks Marianne!
Look for the Pepperberry Designs Trunk Show coming to Needlepoint Land in January 2015.
